Paola Antonelli is Senior Curator of the Department of Architecture & Design of The Museum of Modern Art, where she has worked since 1994. Through her exhibitions—among them also Design and the Elastic Mind, from 2008—teachings and writing, Paola strives to promote a deeper understanding of design's transformative and constructive influence on the world. She has taught design history and theory at UCLA, the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and the MFA program of the School of Visual Arts, and is the author of several exhibition catalogues and titles. She is working on the show Talk to Me, about the communication between people and objects; on the book Design Bites, about basic foods taken as examples of outstanding design; and on getting a Boeing 747 into the MoMA Collection.
Adam Bly is the founder and CEO of Seed. Adam began his career at the age of 16 as the youngest researcher at Canada's National Research Council. Adam's work was highlighted by former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, "for showing people the scope and power of science, not just as an object of study, but as a key to understanding the world around us." He was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2007 and received the Golden Jubilee Medal from Queen Elizabeth II.
Chandler Burr is The New York Times' perfume critic and columnist and speaks around the world on scent and perfume. He's the author of "The Perfect Scent: A Year Inside the Perfume Industry in Paris & New York", "The Emperor of Scent: A True Story of Perfume, Obsession, and the Last Mystery of the Senses," "A Separate Creation," based on his Atlantic cover story on Homosexuality and Biology and, most recently, his first novel: "You Or Someone Like You". Chandler also hosts interactive Scent Dinners that take guests through two parallel menus, one olfactory, which he makes from culinary perfumes and food-based scent raw materials (saffron absolute, vanilla and black pepper essences), and the other gustatory, edible versions of Chandler's scent menus that guests taste.
The IFF New York Creative Center Manager, Véronique Ferval is in a unique position to exercise both her creative talents and her leadership skills. She is driven to inspire perfumers and to seek new avenues for their artistic expression. Thus, she played a key role in creating the First Visionaire Scent Edition with Nicolas Mirzayantz and Jean-Christophe Legreves, as well as working on the concept of Olfactive Vision. Moreover, she has collaborated on scented art installations together with her husband, sculptor Nobi Shioya and IFF.
Jamer Hunt is the Chair of Urban and Transdisciplinary Design in the School of Design Strategies at Parsons The New School for Design where he will be directing a new MFA program in Transdisciplinary Design starting this fall. The MFA in Transdisciplinary Design will serve as a laboratory for new forms of collaborative, cross-disciplinary practice. His practice, Big + Tall Design, combines conceptual, collaborative, and communication design, and he is co-founder of DesignPhiladelphia an initiative to foreground the city as a laboratory for innovative design projects. His written work engages with the poetics and politics of the built environment and has been published in various books, journals, and magazines, including I.D. magazine, which published his Manifesto for Postindustrial Design in 2005.
Jane Nisselson is the founder of film and design studio Virtual Beauty. Her film and multimedia projects focus on the intersection of design, science, engineering, and fashion. With a sensibility that is equal parts Vogue and Popular Mechanics, her short form films have been nominated for a Webby and screened at festivals. Clients include Aramis and Designer Fragrances, Conde Nast Publications, Estee Lauder, GQ, Hearst Magazines, Museum of the Moving Image, and W Magazine. She received her M.S. from MIT, has taught at NYU's ITP, and is working on a documentary on the visual history of the molecule.
Laetitia Wolff is the founding director of futureflair, a creative conduit through which she brings an expert's eye on all things visual and an understanding of design's cultural meaning and strategic challenges. Laetitia is currently consulting for Parsons the New School for Design on strategic alliances and intellectual branding. Formerly the editorial director of Surface and Graphis, she is the author of the milestone monograph Massin (Phaidon Press, 2007) and Real Photo Postcards (Princeton Architectural Press, 2005). She has curated a number of exhibits including Value Meal: design and (over)eating, as well as the first-ever retrospective of the graphic artist Massin. She grew up in Grasse, a small town in the South of France some consider the capital of perfume.
The MFA in Transdisciplinary Design at Parsons
Parsons The New School for Design is one of the most prestigious and comprehensive schools of art and design in the world. In Fall 2010, Parsons will launch a new MFA in Transdisciplinary Design, which will serve as a laboratory to empower designers to face the complex challenges of today's global culture through new forms of collaborative, cross-disciplinary practice.
